Moving, tragic, surprising, inspiring, terrifying, shocking... This is a selection of images from our planet, over the past three days.

Unveiled on 8 May 2025 in Bo-Kaap, the new mural honours the Centenary Celebrations of Afrikaans. Created by acclaimed street artist Nardstar (Nadia Fisher), A close-up view of the mural honouring the Centenary Celebrations of Afrikaans in Bo-Kaap on May 13, 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa. Created by acclaimed street artist Nardstar (Nadia Fisher), calligraphy by Fareed Rhoda Jackson and concept and research by Wisaal Abrahams, the mural is titled ‘Afrikaans: The Origin’ and traces the language’s origin back 350 years, beyond the 100 years as an official language recognised by the state. Many different cultures contributed to the evolution of Afrikaans — a mix of indigenous people, European colonisers and traders, and Asian and African slaves. The mural also shows that the first record of Afrikaans was in Arabic. (Photo by Gallo Images/ER Lombard)(Photo by Gallo Images/ER Lombard)
