"description": "Daily Maverick is an independent online news publication and weekly print newspaper in South Africa.\r\n\r\nIt is known for breaking some of the defining stories of South Africa in the past decade, including the Marikana Massacre, in which the South African Police Service killed 34 miners in August 2012.\r\n\r\nIt also investigated the Gupta Leaks, which won the 2019 Global Shining Light Award.\r\n\r\nThat investigation was credited with exposing the Indian-born Gupta family and former President Jacob Zuma for their role in the systemic political corruption referred to as state capture.\r\n\r\nIn 2018, co-founder and editor-in-chief Branislav ‘Branko’ Brkic was awarded the country’s prestigious Nat Nakasa Award, recognised for initiating the investigative collaboration after receiving the hard drive that included the email tranche.\r\n\r\nIn 2021, co-founder and CEO Styli Charalambous also received the award.\r\n\r\nDaily Maverick covers the latest political and news developments in South Africa with breaking news updates, analysis, opinions and more.",

"description": "
Jacob Zuma is a South African politician who served as the fourth president of South Africa from 2009 to 2018. He is also referred to by his initials JZ and clan name Msholozi.
\r\n
Zuma was born in Nkandla, South Africa, in 1942. He joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1959 and became an anti-apartheid activist. He was imprisoned for 10 years for his political activities.
\r\n
After his release from prison, Zuma served in various government positions, including as deputy president of South Africa from 1999 to 2005. In 2007, he was elected president of the ANC.
\r\n
Zuma was elected president of South Africa in 2009. His presidency was marked by controversy, including allegations of corruption and mismanagement. He was also criticized for his close ties to the Gupta family, a wealthy Indian business family accused of using their influence to enrich themselves at the expense of the South African government.
\r\n
In 2018, Zuma resigned as president after facing mounting pressure from the ANC and the public. He was subsequently convicted of corruption and sentenced to 15 months in prison.
\r\n
Jacob Zuma is a controversial figure, but he is also a significant figure in South African history. He was the first president of South Africa to be born after apartheid, and he played a key role in the transition to democracy. However, his presidency was also marred by scandal and corruption, and he is ultimately remembered as a flawed leader.
\r\n
The African National Congress (ANC) is the oldest political party in South Africa and has been the ruling party since the first democratic elections in 1994.
",

They are also major producers of commodities, such as oil, gas, and minerals. This makes them important players in the global economy.
\r\n
The BRICS countries have been working together to promote their mutual interests on the global stage. They have held annual summits since 2009, and they have established a number of joint initiatives, such as the BRICS Development Bank and the BRICS New Development Bank.
\r\n
The BRICS countries are often seen as a challenge to the traditional Western powers, such as the United States and the European Union. They are also seen as a potential force for stability in the global economy.
\r\n
South Africa is the only BRICS country that is located in Africa. This gives it a unique perspective on the challenges facing the continent, and it allows South Africa to play a leading role in promoting African development.
\r\n
South Africa's membership in BRICS has been beneficial to the country in a number of ways. It has helped to boost South Africa's trade and investment ties with the other countries, and it has also helped to raise South Africa's profile on the global stage. Additionally, the membership has provided South Africa with a platform to advocate for the interests of Africa and the developing world.
\r\n
There are some challenges that South Africa faces in its role in the grouping. One challenge is that South Africa is the smallest and least developed country of the five members. This can make it difficult for South Africa to influence the decisions of the other countries.
",
