"contents": "<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A call is being made to the University of Cape Town (UCT) council to use an upcoming meeting as “an opportunity” to calm ongoing leadership troubles at the university.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a statement, three former presidents of the UCT Convocation appealed to university leadership to “avoid the temptation of defensiveness and sweeping challenges under rugs at the cost of finding solutions” — in reference to reports of governance instability. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three are Barney Pityana, Lorna Houston and Eddy Maloka.</span>\r\n\r\n<iframe id=\"doc_30931\" class=\"scribd_iframe_embed\" title=\"UcT Convocation\" src=\"https://www.scribd.com/embeds/599633441/content?start_page=1&view_mode=scroll&access_key=key-AwC8cLU3zmLU9t9v33ki\" width=\"100%\" height=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" data-auto-height=\"false\" data-aspect-ratio=\"0.7729220222793488\"></iframe>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The former presidents of the UCT Convocations met at the weekend to discuss various reports about turbulence at the institution. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three met on Sunday 9 October within their capacities as UCT alumni, “out of concern and due to their commitment to UCT as their “Alma Mater”. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pityana, who holds a PhD in religious studies from the university, became president of the UCT Convocation in 2015.
