"contents": "<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 39-year-old SAPS sergeant and a security guard were shot and wounded after a group of armed men attacked a cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicle in Macassar on the Cape Flats on Thursday, 29 April. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Three suspects were arrested and five firearms, including three AK-47 rifles as well as five vehicles, were seized in Stellenbosch. Two of the vehicles were hijacked by the suspects as they fled the Macassar scene,” according to a SAPS statement after the incident.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to SAPS spokesperson Vish Naidoo, the SAPS does not believe that the three suspects arrested were the only ones involved.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reinforcements consisting of local police, tactical response teams and air support responded immediately, quickly foiling the robbery and tracking the suspects to a Kayamandi taxi rank in Stellenbosch, the statement read.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the statement, the SAPS officer was wounded during the chase and shootouts, while the security guard was wounded after the group attacked the CIT vehicle in Macassar.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 12.15pm, Stellenbosch locals heard gunshots coming from the R44.</span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-904845\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Pitt-CIT-shootout-main-inset.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" /> Upon the arrest of three suspects, five firearms, including three AK-47 rifles, as well as five vehicles, were seized in Stellenbosch.
