"contents": "<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cricket South Africa (CSA) today announced the 15-player squad that will represent South Africa at the ICC under-19 Men’s World Cup 2024 to be held in South Africa across January and February.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The South Africa Under-19s will be captained by Lions batter David Teeger, who recently endured an inquiry by CSA regarding</span> <a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2023-11-26-inquiry-to-investigate-sa-under-19-cricket-captains-pro-israel-comments-at-awards-ceremony/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comments made concerning Israeli soldiers</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.</span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2023-12-06-sa-under-19-cricket-captain-david-teeger-cleared-of-any-wrongdoing-over-israel-comments/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teeger was cleared of any wrongdoing</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by advocate Wim Trengove SC on Wednesday.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The inquiry — initiated by CSA following a widely spread statement by the Palestine Solidarity Alliance, who initially flagged Teeger’s comments made at the Absa Jewish Achiever Awards on 22 October — found that Teeger’s comments did not amount to hate speech or a breach of the CSA code of conduct.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“The Constitutional Court has made the point that the right to freedom of expression does not protect hate speech, but emphasised that the expression of unpopular or even offensive beliefs does not constitute hate speech,” Trengove wrote in a 44-page adjudicator’s determination.</span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1774199\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/inset1-2.jpg\" alt=\"Pholetsi Mosek, CSA\" width=\"720\" height=\"475\" /> <em>CEO of Cricket SA Pholetsi.
