"contents": "<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former SAA chairperson Dudu Myeni will plead guilty to revealing the identity of a protected witness during her testimony at the Zondo State Capture Commission in November 2020.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Myeni was charged with obstructing the administration of justice after she revealed the </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2022-05-04-court-warns-delinquent-director-dudu-myeni-after-yet-another-no-show-be-here-or-face-arrest/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">identity</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the witness known as Mr X at the commission in </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2020-11-05-from-bad-to-worse-dudu-myeni-turns-state-capture-inquiry-into-a-farce/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">November 2020</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, despite a strict order from commission chairperson Justice Raymond Zondo that the name be withheld.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr X had implicated her in </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2020-02-18-millions-in-laundered-cash-hidden-in-dudu-myenis-house-state-capture-commission-hears/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allegedly dodgy deals</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involving the Mhlathuze Water Board and a housing </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2020-02-17-testimony-millions-in-state-housing-contract-funds-were-round-tripped-to-jacob-zuma-foundation/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contract</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Mpumalanga government.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A warrant of arrest was issued last month after she failed to show up at court, where her lawyer, Nqabayethu Buthelezi, said his client’s absence was owing to health concerns. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the case took a dramatic turn when Myeni appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane told </span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily Maverick</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Myeni would be entering a plea and sentence agreement.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“The matter has been postponed to 27 July to conclude the 105A negotiations to negotiate and enter into an agreement with the accused. We will consult with the complainant and bring the investigating officer aboard in the negotiations. We hope to conclude the agreement before the next appearance and file it in court,” Mjonondwane said.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NPA further indicated that no prescribed minimum sentence exists for the crime Myeni is alleged to have committed, and she may get away with a fine or suspended sentence.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After being investigated for prosecution over her role in State Capture at SAA, where she was a director and later chairperson, Myeni has emerged as a critical participant in State Capture.</span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1294724\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/OD-dudu-myeni-guilty2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"394\" /> Dudu Myeni arrives to testify in her SAA delinquency case at the Pretoria High Court on 20 February 2020.
