We do believe food donations may not necessarily solve the problem but will make a difference in the short term while they are finding ways to make themselves sustainable in the long term.” </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The donation has reached 280 homeless people. We live as a community and cook together for sustainability in these trying times to make sure no one goes hungry. The remaining food from Amadiba will last us until the weekend. Siyabonga!”</span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://swc.org.za/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sustaining the Wild Coast</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SWC) has been raising donations from the public to buy produce from Amadiba farmers for distribution in the South Coast of KZN through the </span><a href=\"https://www.givengain.com/cc/food-from-amadiba-for-kwazulunatal/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Food from Amadiba for KwaZulu-Natal” campaign</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Margie Pretorius, chairperson of SWC, a non-profit company that supports sustainable development on the Wild Coast, said: “The ability of the Amadiba community to supply to communities hit hard by Covid-19 and looting should be yet another urgent call to government to desist from promoting mining in Xolobeni. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“It should also encourage the South African National Roads Agency (</span><a href=\"https://www.nra.co.za/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sanral</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) to heed calls from the Amadiba coastal community to reroute the northernmost section of the </span><a href=\"https://youtu.be/v2gA2soJ0w8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">N2 Wild Coast</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> toll road further inland, away from the productive fields of the coastal villages, where farmers are determined to resist land dispossession.”</span>\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/mc-amadiba_4/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-997548\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/MC-Amadiba_4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1892\" height=\"965\" /></a> Sakhayedwa Danca, in Nyavini Village, Eastern Cape, in his sweet potatoe field.<br />(Photo: Margie Pretorius)</p>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pretorius said that since 16 July SWC has raised R40,000 which enabled the purchase of approximately six tonnes of sweet potatoes donated to the Food For Life South Africa (</span><a href=\"https://www.fflsa.org/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FFLSA</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) Port Shepstone branch. Food for Life has since repackaged the sweet potatoes into 700 smaller bags that are being distributed to needy families.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pretorius said the donation to FFLSA helped to build on </span><a href=\"https://youtu.be/qyyDabo1cs4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">successful partnerships</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the organisation had worked with Amadiba in the severe lockdown of 2020 and has a solid history of providing meals to vulnerable communities on the KZN South Coast. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SWC invites people from across South Africa to donate to the cause to help feed vulnerable communities in KZN.
