The woman and the little girl were at the #TotalShutdown march in Cape Town on Wednesday.</span></span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">While people are taking pictures of the little girl, the woman tells <i>Daily Maverick</i> she has an open rape case against her ex-husband, which is currently in its fifth year.</span></span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">On the sidelines of the march, the woman, who did not want to be named, told <i>Daily Maverick </i>that she has to “relive that” whenever she recalls her traumatic ordeal. When asked why she was at the march, she replied:</span></span>\r\n\r\n“<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Because I am a rape victim and (I am doing it) for future women” – such as her granddaughter.</span></span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The woman and her grandchild disappeared into the crowd of more than 200 people – full of activists, media workers, community organisers and women from all walks of life.</span></span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Nudumo Ndengezi, a 60-year-old resident of Langa on the Cape Flats, told <i>Daily Maverick</i>: </span></span>\r\n\r\n“<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I want to make sure I want to leave my children in a country where there is no gender-based violence. No one is taking account,” she says, as she waves a poster with the words, “You are not worth a leader [if] accused of gender-based violence”.</span></span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-94719\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sune-Nondumo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4160\" height=\"2742\" /> Nondumo Ndengezi from Langa joined the #totalshutdown in Cape Town because she feels leaders need to become accountable for their actions.Location: Cape Town. He was a role model to men, to say they can get away with it.</span></span>\r\n\r\n“<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">If you are really serious about being a leader, and you are accused of gender-based violence, you need to use your conscience.
