Ukraine said it hit two bridges in the southern Kherson region – now occupied by Russia – that serve as important crossings for Russian supplies, military spokesperson Natalia Humenyuk said. Ukrainian troops also destroyed several Russian munition depots, she said, without elaborating.</span>\r\n<h4><b>Russian weapons rely on foreign tech, report says</b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Russian military systems depend highly on microelectronics components designed and produced in the US, Europe and east Asia, according to a report based on an examination of the remains of equipment used by the Kremlin’s forces in Ukraine. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report by the Royal United Services Institute in London inspected 27 weapon systems, including state-of-the art cruise missiles and drones that were used since Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in February. It found at least 450 foreign-made components that were critical to their operation. </span>\r\n<h4><b>Mediterranean buyers return for Russian crude</b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oil buyers in southern Europe are quietly returning to the market for Russian crude, with a European Union ban on such shipments still four months away. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shipments of Russian crude to ports in Italy and Turkey rose to multi-week highs in the seven days to 5 August, offsetting another drop in shipments to customers in northern Europe, according to vessel-tracking data monitored by Bloomberg.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shipments from Russia to the Mediterranean region as a whole were the highest since mid-June. Deliveries of crude from export terminals in the Baltic and Black Sea to refineries in Italy rose to a seven-week high, while shipments to Turkey were the biggest in six weeks. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spain took its first cargo of Urals crude since April.</span>\r\n<h4><b>Ukraine applies for new loan programme with IMF </b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal sent a formal letter to the International Monetary Fund on Friday asking for a new special aid programme, and he expects the arrival of funds in November or December. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ukraine needs tens of billions of dollars in international aid to support an economy hammered by Russia’s invasion.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ukraine aims to reach a deal for a $15-$20b IMF financing programme before year-end, Reuters reported last month, citing central bank governor Kyrylo Shevchenko.</span>\r\n<div>\r\n\r\n<script type=\"text/javascript\">!function(e,t,r){let n;if(e.getElementById(r))return;const a=e.getElementsByTagName(\"script\")[0];n=e.createElement(\"script\"),n.id=r,n.defer=!0,n.src=\"https://playback.oovvuu.media/player/v1.js\",a.parentNode.insertBefore(n,a)}(document,0,\"oovvuu-player-sdk\");</script>\r\n<div data-oovvuu-embed=\"1e90659f-ac14-4201-a596-ef7e08e24493\">\r\n\r\n \r\n<div></div>\r\n \r\n\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n \r\n<h4><b>Grain vessel rejected, another reaches destination </b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final buyer of grain carried by the vessel Razoni rejected the cargo due to a five-month delay in its delivery, Ukraine’s embassy in Lebanon said in a statement on Twitter. The ship – which is currently in the Mediterranean Sea – had been the first agriculture vessel to leave Ukraine under the newly established corridor for grain exports. The shipper is now looking for another consignee, the embassy said.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, another crop vessel from Ukraine – the Polarnet – has reached its final destination in Turkey after clearing inspection in Istanbul, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry said. Two other grain ships that left in the same caravan are expected to reach their destinations in about a week.</span>\r\n<h4><b>Ukraine reopens stock exchanges, renews bond trading </b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two of Ukraine’s leading stock exchanges, known as Ukrainian Exchange and PFTS, resumed operations. Both suspended trading on 24 February when Russia invaded. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ukraine’s stock exchange authorities also allowed the trading of government bonds to resume to help the war-battered economy.</span>\r\n<h4><b>Russia says it will welcome monitors at nuclear plant </b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kremlin’s envoy to the IAEA has invited an international mission to Zaporizhzhia – the world’s largest nuclear plant – to conduct “activities within the framework of the implementation of safeguards, as well as monitor the state of nuclear safety and security”, according to a note circulated among diplomats in Vienna. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The president of Energoatom, the operator of the power station, called on partners to set up a demilitarised zone at the facility and for the presence of peacekeepers, as well as for experts from the IAEA and other organisations to take control of the situation.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Energoatom State Enterprise President Petro Kotin said on television that there are as many as 500 Russian soldiers and about 50 pieces of heavy military equipment at the site. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IAEA warned yesterday of “potentially catastrophic consequences” after shelling that Ukrainian officials blamed on Russia. </span>\r\n<h4><b>Ukraine’s port of Pivdennyi resumes crop shipments</b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first cargo ship departed from the port of Pivdennyi since Russia’s invasion, becoming the third port to do so, the nation’s Infrastructure Ministry said on its Telegram channel. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ministry hopes the move will help Ukraine to ship up to three million tons of grain per month.</span>\r\n<div>\r\n\r\n<script type=\"text/javascript\">!function(e,t,r){let n;if(e.getElementById(r))return;const a=e.getElementsByTagName(\"script\")[0];n=e.createElement(\"script\"),n.id=r,n.defer=!0,n.src=\"https://playback.oovvuu.media/player/v1.js\",a.parentNode.insertBefore(n,a)}(document,0,\"oovvuu-player-sdk\");</script>\r\n<div data-oovvuu-embed=\"6c14d2db-3874-4855-97d9-4a1879f59652\">\r\n\r\n \r\n<div></div>\r\n \r\n\r\n</div>\r\n</div>\r\n \r\n<h4><b>More grain ships depart from Ukraine </b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two more grain ships departed from Ukraine ports Monday morning, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said in a Twitter post. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sacura is carrying 11,000 tons of soy to Italy, and the Arizona is carrying 48,458 tons of corn to Iskenderun in southern Turkey, the ministry said.</span>\r\n<h4><b>US senators seek to label Russia terrorism sponsor </b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two US senators renewed a bipartisan call for President Joe Biden’s administration to declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“The administration should, in effect, say to Russia, we’re making you a pariah, like Iran and Cuba,” Connecticut Democrat Richard Blumenthal said on CNN’s </span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State of the Union</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The designation would mean, in part, that “you can go to American courts and sue Russia for the damage done in Ukraine”, South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham said. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blumenthal and Graham championed a Senate resolution passed in July that calls on the administration to apply the label to Russia.
