In May 2021, </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2021-05-07-rescue-efforts-continue-in-the-western-cape-after-winter-storm-strikes/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">persistent rainfall caused severe flooding</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in parts of the province. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sablay added that, since the heavy rainfall began, calls from flood victims in affected areas “have been pouring into” Gift of the Givers offices. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Our teams are currently busy in five locations, including Masiphumelele informal settlement in Kommetjie, Nyanga, Kraaifontein, Bishop Lavis, and Ravensmead,” he said. </span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1294817\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/covid-1992.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"400\" /> Residents in the informal settlement in Covid, Mfuleni had their homes flooded due to a overflowing river. In May 2021, </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2021-05-07-rescue-efforts-continue-in-the-western-cape-after-winter-storm-strikes/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">persistent rainfall caused severe flooding</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in parts of the province. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sablay added that, since the heavy rainfall began, calls from flood victims in affected areas “have been pouring into” Gift of the Givers offices. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Our teams are currently busy in five locations, including Masiphumelele informal settlement in Kommetjie, Nyanga, Kraaifontein, Bishop Lavis, and Ravensmead,” he said. </span>\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_1294817\" align=\"aligncenter\" width=\"720\"]<img class=\"size-full wp-image-1294817\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/covid-1992.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"400\" /> Residents in the informal settlement in Covid, Mfuleni had their homes flooded due to a overflowing river.
