MK Party Skosana's latest ‘Cyber bully’ revelation against Public Protector CEO calls for sanction

MK Party Skosana's latest ‘Cyber bully’ revelation against Public Protector CEO calls for sanction
Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka’s revelations in Parliament this week that CEO Thandi Sibanyoni had allegedly been threatened by MK Party MP David Skosana, calls for sanction and action.

Skosana, who is the husband of EFF MP Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is a cyber bully who has previously threatened other women, including the late former Cabinet minister Tina Joemat-Petersson and now the CEO of a Chapter Nine institution, Sibanyoni.

Joemat-Petersson took her own life weeks after alleged threats by Skosana and Mkhwebane to make public recordings of alleged requests for a bribe to “throw” her historic Section 194 impeachment inquiry.

This week Gcaleka, while presenting the office’s annual report to Parliament’s Scopa committee during a virtual meeting, claimed Skosana had threatened Sibanyoni over the former public protector’s failed R10-million gratuity claim.

The public protector said that “among messages, phone calls [to Sibanyoni], which were made by David Skosana, whom I also see is now on the platform, there was also an SMS from an unknown number”.

These read: “If Fighter Mkhwebane doesn’t get her money, we will pay your sons — and the sons’ names are stated — a visit, your choice.”

Gclaleka said the threats had been reported to the police.

MK bully-in-chief

Skosana has no qualms about weaponisng his social media profile and presence to threaten News24 journalist Karyn Maughan, as well as this writer. In September 2022 he led a campaign of vitriol against Maughan, posting a manipulated image of the journalist in orange overalls.

He has posted selfies with senior EFF leaders, this before one of the party’s most senior leaders Floyd Shivambu jumped ship for former president Jacob Zuma’s MK.

Media24 did an audit of Skosana’s most base insults and these include referring to journalists as “media pigs” and claiming that there were too many Vendas working at the Office of the Public Protector.

He has described Daily Maverick journalists as “the offspring from apartheid racist grandparents”.

Skosana’s followers, who include pitchfork-princess Dudu Zuma-Sambudla, also a member of MK, frequently gather to stoke the flames on social media.

Serious matter

Gcaleka’s revelations of the threats are a serious matter.

She heads a Chapter 9 institution, which Skosana’s wife, Mkhwebane, captured and took to the brink, leading to her impeachment by Parliament.

Mkwebane still owes the public around R4-million for her illegal stay in the government’s Bryntirion ministerial estate in Pretoria. Her office paid the Department of Public Works the rental, all this while Mkwebane owned her own home in Pretoria at the time.

Threats in cyberspace or in SMS results in violence in real time. DM
