An annual reunion of five quirky ex-bandmates gets just slightly more out of hand than usual when someone finds a dead body, sending the fists and accusations flying. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With tjommies like these, who needs enemies? The debut feature film from Philip Nolte (</span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sex in Afrikaans</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, </span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vossie Vergas Homself</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), enjoys a cast of familiar South African faces.</span>\r\n<h4><b>Shaka Ilembe</b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: </span><b>4 December on Showmax</b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set in the 1700s, </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2023-06-20-shaka-zulu-is-back-in-pop-culture-how-the-famous-king-has-been-portrayed-over-the-decades/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shaka Ilembe</span></i></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tells the story of the rise of the iconic Zulu king, played as an adult by Lemogang Tsipa (</span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Republic)</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a child by newcomer Nyandeni Zondi. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The show was delayed for several years because of Covid, but the premiere of its first episode reached over 3.6 million DStv viewers in South Africa and a second season is already on the way. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first season focuses more on Shaka’s early life and Zulu lineage than the exploits as a warrior and leader that he is known for. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Possibly the most ambitious South African historical drama, it has all the trappings of pulp entertainment titles like </span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vikings</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or </span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black Sails</span></i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the violence, politics, romance, and of course the eye candy.</span>\r\n<h4><b>Trompoppie: premieres 7 December on Showmax, new episodes every Thursday.</b></h4>\r\nhttps://youtu.be/12u403OJbCE?si=4x8Rq8XaKnMfR4mW\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A whodunnit cliffhanger series about Luna, a talented young gymnast who is awarded a bursary to a prestigious private school she could never afford. It gets upended when the owners of the house (</span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2022-01-06-this-weekend-were-watching-what-makes-us-who-we-are-a-calm-and-inquiring-sci-fi-drama/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mahershala Ali</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Myha’la) pitch up in the night bearing world-changing news about a mysterious global cyberattack and asking to move back into their home.
