"description": "Daily Maverick is an independent online news publication and weekly print newspaper in South Africa.\r\n\r\nIt is known for breaking some of the defining stories of South Africa in the past decade, including the Marikana Massacre, in which the South African Police Service killed 34 miners in August 2012.\r\n\r\nIt also investigated the Gupta Leaks, which won the 2019 Global Shining Light Award.\r\n\r\nThat investigation was credited with exposing the Indian-born Gupta family and former President Jacob Zuma for their role in the systemic political corruption referred to as state capture.\r\n\r\nIn 2018, co-founder and editor-in-chief Branislav ‘Branko’ Brkic was awarded the country’s prestigious Nat Nakasa Award, recognised for initiating the investigative collaboration after receiving the hard drive that included the email tranche.\r\n\r\nIn 2021, co-founder and CEO Styli Charalambous also received the award.\r\n\r\nDaily Maverick covers the latest political and news developments in South Africa with breaking news updates, analysis, opinions and more.",

This is beyond a crisis level.\r\n\r\n“Water tankers come into the community at specific times during the day and if you are working it is hard to keep up with their schedules or get enough water for all purposes.\r\n\r\n“It’s hard, but we have somehow gotten used to a lack of service delivery in the area, so this is no surprise.”\r\n\r\nAnother resident going by the name of Mavovo said: “I think this is a way to force us back home to our different countries… there is a narrative that Yeoville, Hillbrow and Berea have been hijacked by foreign nationals.\r\n\r\n“And if not providing us with basic needs is the price we pay for being from other countries, then we’d rather go home. This is inhumane – a whole month with interrupted supply and eight days of no water at all.”\r\n\r\n<em>Daily Maverick</em> approached Rand Water and Johannesburg Water to find out what’s causing the interruptions in the water supply and what is being done to resolve the <a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2023-02-01-why-joburg-has-worsening-water-issues-even-when-the-dams-are-full/\">long-standing crisis.</a>\r\n<h4><strong>‘No water supply challenges’</strong></h4>\r\nRand Water’s spokesperson Makenosi Maroo told <em>Daily Maverick</em> that there are no water supply challenges for Johannesburg.\r\n\r\n“However, it is public knowledge that some areas of the province (Gauteng) experienced intermittent water supply challenges, largely as a result of high water consumption created by soaring summer temperatures.\r\n\r\n“It is also known that the country is experiencing load shedding which also causes residual electricity supply problems. These factors have a direct impact on some municipalities’ ability to supply sufficient water without interruption.”\r\n<h4><strong>What’s causing the interruptions?</strong></h4>\r\nLast week, Joburg Water’s Puleng Mopeli <a href=\"https://ewn.co.za/2023/05/05/yeoville-reservoir-issues-causing-water-outages-in-some-areas-joburg-water\">confirmed</a> to <em>Eyewitness News </em>that Yeoville’s reservoir issues were causing water outages in some areas of the city. This comes after the reservoir flooded at the end of March during planned maintenance, damaging its pumping infrastructure.\r\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Yeoville water tower.
