"contents": "<p class=\"western\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Vincent Nyathi has set a precedent for pangolin poaching after he was sentenced to eight years behind bars for keeping one of the endangered mammals in a drum.</span></span></span></p>\r\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">According to advocate Ansie Venter, the animal was found after authorities received a tip-off that Nyathi, 32, was keeping a live pangolin in a back room in his mother’s house. </span></span></span></p>\r\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">“<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">It was found without food or water and definitely wasn’t kept as a pet.”</span></span></span></p>\r\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Pangolins, also known as scaly anteaters, are the most heavily trafficked mammal on Earth.</span></span></span></p>\r\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Venter told the court that the animal was found standing up on its hind legs looking out of the drum when authorities entered the house and confiscated it in 2018.</span></span></span></p>\r\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Nyathi claimed he was looking after it for a friend, but was unable to name the friend when asked by Venter.
