These issues trended by volume, burst and reach yesterday.</span>\r\n\r\n<b>Under fire</b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moments before the virtual presidential imbizo started, @CyrilRamaphosa </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/CyrilRamaphosa/status/1283431687360319488\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shared</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this message on Twitter: “Looking forward to a fruitful engagement with fellow South Africans tuning in to this evening’s Imbizo on #coronavirus via their local community radio stations, news channels and participating via social media. #PresidentialImbizo.” The tweet generated 385 likes and set off a barrage of criticism. </span>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-671286\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/Presidential-Imbizo2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1041\" />Earlier, social media was flooded with frustration over the latest lockdown regulations. The EFF’s @MbuyiseniNdlozi </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/MbuyiseniNdlozi/status/1283318398529798144\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: “You cannot call for schools to close & leave everything else open - it will be futile. SA MUST SHUTDOWN &: - all workers must get 3 months payment holiday. - feeding schemes must deliver food to children at home. - all businesses that close must get payment holiday from rent/bonds.” This tweet quickly gained traction, with over 1,400 retweets and 5,800 likes by this morning.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other users shared concerns over rising unemployment and economic deterioration. @CaronWilliams_ </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/CaronWilliams_/status/1283435346798280704\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: “Three million people have lost their jobs in SA since COVID-19 hit.” (1,200 retweets, 1,600 likes.)</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@TholiBSA retweeted an original </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/rodcampsbay/status/1282944695480528901\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by @rodcampsbay which read, “The tourism industry is losing R748 million a day. Well done Cyril!” (366 retweets, 612 likes.) </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some Twitter users acknowledged that job losses were not unique to South Africa. @TholiBSA quoted this with a </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/TholiBSA/status/1283302364624060417\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweet</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that read, “There are people who think COVID-19 is only in SA, and it was brought by Cyril.” This was retweeted over 1,000 times and liked 1,800 times by today.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@alfred_cabonena </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/alfred_cabonena/status/1283370210897035264\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, “If the ANC survives the next elections, South Africa won't.” This tweet received 272 retweets and 841 likes. @SimonPGrindrod </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/SimonPGrindrod/status/1283065183145951234\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shared</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a similar sentiment in a tweet that read, “The ANC does not own our nation. The ANC does not own the State. The ANC is not South Africa. The people of our country deserve better. The ANC must fall before it is too late to salvage a future from the wreck of the present. ??” (380 retweets and 1,200 likes.) </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@MadiBoity echoed this in a </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/MadiBoity/status/1283297561227464704\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweet</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that read, “Dear South Africa, We cannot continue to put the future of this country into the hands of 4,000 ANC delegates, who are bought with alcohol & cash, in deciding who our President is. Therefore, ANC must be fired & vacate office. We need best brains across the board to reboot SA.” This tweet received far more attention, with 916 retweets and over 2,400 likes. </span>\r\n\r\n<b>Court steps in </b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A few weeks ago, a video of Western Cape officials forcibly removing a naked man from his home went viral. @News24 </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/News24/status/1283332377868226560\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shared </span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a report that the Western Cape High Court has ordered the City of Cape Town to rebuild the Hangberg home of Ginola Phillips within 48 hours, to the same size and specifications of the home they destroyed. The tweet shared by @News24 received over 700 likes and retweets. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minister of Human Settlements @LindiweSisuluSA </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/LindiweSisuluSA/status/1283389242161283080\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted </span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a statement welcoming the court’s judgment. The tweet was liked and retweeted about 200 times. </span>\r\n\r\n<b>Load shedding </b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> “Load shedding” was mentioned about 8,000 times on Twitter. @Midstream_MES </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/Midstream_MES/status/1283429733749989378\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted information</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about areas impacted. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@CityofCT announced that, “No load-shedding for City customers today. The City will protect most of its customers from Eskom's load-shedding today. Eskom customers will unfortunately be shed at Stage 1.” None of these tweets were shared widely, with @CityofCT’s tweet gaining only 250 likes, retweets and comments. </span>\r\n\r\n<b>Seeking jobs</b>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://twitter.com/mavinothabo_884/status/1283292623160184832\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mavino Thabo asked Twitter users to assist him in finding a job</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by retweeting: “Kekopa permanent job in Financial Management or Office Administrator. I hold a national diploma in Financial Management and have 1 year 3 months experience in Financial management and 7 years in Office Administrator. Please retweet. My employer might be on your timeline.” The tweet received 852 retweets, 528 likes and nine comments with people sharing job links. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/_Didintle_m/status/1283307381355679745\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Didintle shared her good employment news</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, “After years of struggling to secure employment, God reminded me today that even in the midst of a storm, He is still faithful. I GOT THE JOB!!!!!” Her tweet received over 26,500 likes, 2,100 retweets and 382 comments filled with congratulatory messages.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many entrepreneurs took to social media to promote their businesses. </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/HoldingsMona/status/1283346692553822208\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mona Holdings</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shared their R80 face shield, which received 127 likes, 114 retweets and 31 comments. </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/Nkulunkulukazi/status/1283293799251431425\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@Nkulunkukazi promoted her high quality leather accessories business</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which specialises in engraved or personalised leather products and received 223 likes, 203 retweets and 42 comments. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> </span><b>Staying healthy</b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Your mental health, happiness, & existence is a priority,” tweeted </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/HermaineM/status/1283360915354722304\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hermaine M</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The tweet received 527 likes and 125 retweets, sparking many conversations about managing stress and staying healthy.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nabela Noor shared:</span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> “My therapist taught me this trick. When you feel anxious that someone is mad at you, doesn’t like you or that things are worse than they actually are, ask yourself: ‘Who told you that?’ Typically you won’t have an answer & you’ll learn that it’s all in your head. Pass it on.” The tweet received over 672,600 likes, 233,300 retweets and 1,700 comments.</span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://twitter.com/4UWell/status/1283492687392505859\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@4UWell shared the following mental health improvement tips</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:</span>\r\n\r\n“Improve your Mental Health\r\n\r\n- Read\r\n\r\n- Exercise\r\n\r\n- Meditate\r\n\r\n- Eat healthy\r\n\r\n- Drink water\r\n\r\n- Help someone\r\n\r\n- Challenge yourself.”\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tweet received 142 retweets and 259 likes. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/BTBoekkooi/status/1283134646591598600\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@BTBoekkooi</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tweeted, “I feel bad for that one molecule of serotonin that has been carrying my mental health through the entirety of 2020.” The tweet received 369 likes and 108 retweets. </span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://twitter.com/mitchellekaroro/status/1283285995060961281\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mitchelle Karoro</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> said she found comfort from social media: “Nowadays people from social media comfort us more than people we know in person.” The tweet received over 1,700 likes, 403 retweets and 53 comments.</span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://twitter.com/Khathu_cheLo/status/1283299112050466816\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@Khathu_cheLo</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> responded: “Sometimes it's because we don't tell them what we are going through, instead we post about it...” </span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://twitter.com/JohnCena/status/1283380180577378305\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John Cena, international wrestling star, tweeted</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, “When times are difficult, often we feel guilty experiencing joy. Allow joy in your life. Joy during such difficulty shouldn’t make you feel guilty. Use it as a way to remain aware of issues, be genuinely grateful for the good you do have and spread that joy to those in need.” The tweet received 38,800 likes, 11,100 retweets and 1,000 comments.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twitter users reminded each other to value friends and family. @miss_neoentle </span><a href=\"https://twitter.com/miss_neoentle/status/1283415975686275074\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweeted</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, “Guys please fix things with the people you love, apologize where it matters and tell people you love them. Tomorrow isn’t promised.” This tweet was liked and retweeted over 6,000 times. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">@Miss_Rodolo encouraged others to acknowledge their parents: “Some of you guys are really blessed yazi. Having parents buy your first cars, being helped out your first year of working and even staying at home with no financial obligations to help your family. He is also the president of the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa. After the first democratic elections in 1994, Ramaphosa was appointed as the country's first trade and industry minister.\r\n\r\nIn 1996, Ramaphosa left government to pursue a career in business. He founded the Shanduka Group, a diversified investment company, and served as its chairman until 2012. Ramaphosa was also a non-executive director of several major South African companies, including Standard Bank and MTN.\r\n\r\nIn 2012, Ramaphosa returned to politics and was elected as deputy president of the ANC. He was elected president of the ANC in 2017, and became president of South Africa in 2018.\r\n\r\nCyril Ramaphosa is a popular figure in South Africa. He is seen as a moderate and pragmatic leader who is committed to improving the lives of all South Africans. He has pledged to address the country's high levels of poverty, unemployment, and inequality. He has also promised to fight corruption and to restore trust in the government.\r\n\r\nRamaphosa faces a number of challenges as president of South Africa. The country is still recovering from the legacy of apartheid, and there are deep divisions along racial, economic, and political lines. The economy is also struggling, and unemployment is high. Ramaphosa will need to find a way to unite the country and to address its economic challenges if he is to be successful as president.",
