"contents": "<b>Monday 4 July </b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the last day for individuals to apply for the upcoming anti-corruption hackathon, HackCorruption.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The HackCorruption event, hosted by Accountability Lab and the Center for International Private Enterprise, will be taking place between 22 and 24 July in Johannesburg. It will involve 100 virtual and in-person participants.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“The overall goal of the hackathon is to prevent, deter, and combat corruption by stimulating the innovative application of technology to address accountability gaps and build systemic integrity,” according to the event description. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem sets that the hackathon will cover are:</span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>beneficial ownership transparency;</li>\r\n \t<li>open contracting and transparency in public procurement;</li>\r\n \t<li>the accountable use of digital technologies; and</li>\r\n \t<li>digital citizenship to constrain corruption.</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apply for the HackCorruption event </span><a href=\"https://www.hackcorruption.org/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.</span>\r\n\r\n<b>On Tuesday, 5 July, at 3pm</b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, together with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), will be hosting an online seminar on “Cabo Delgado’s resource curse beyond natural gas”.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the event description, Mozambicans view the discovery of natural resources such as liquefied natural gas and rubies as drivers of the insurgency in the country’s north. Local people have been angered by a system that allows elites to benefit disproportionately from these resources.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“The targeting of [liquefied natural gas] projects by violent extremists led to the suspension of a major investment by TotalEnergies,” states the event description.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“In early June, attacks also threatened the mining of graphite, which is being produced for Elon Musk’s Tesla.”</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The seminar will explore whether the mining activities are driving the insurgency, and how natural resources in Cabo Delgado province can be better governed.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The chairperson of the discussion is Liesl Louw-Vaudran, senior researcher at ISS. The protests included rallies across the country demanding a new social, economic and environmental pact,” according to the event description.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“In late 2020, an overwhelming majority of Chileans (78%) voted in support of a new Constitution amid strong demands for dignity and economic justice that linger since the social unrest.”</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chilean Constitutional Convention finished the draft of the new Constitution after 10 months of work.
