"contents": "<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choir pupils with visual disabilities from Khanyisa Special School in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, are heading to the US to compete on America’s Got Talent, a televised talent competition that attracts a variety of performers including singers, dancers, comedians and magicians.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To prepare to showcase their talent in the US, the Khanyisa Special School choir members have been releasing a cappella songs on YouTube.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The members – Lithalethu Miki, Avela Hulana, Lisakhanya Tunce, Sesona Xengxe, Indiphile Foslara, Akohlulwa Gqirana, Ayabulela Gashi, Sinoxolo Lantu, Siphumelele Cenga, Saluse Mfusi, Sinothando Zozi and Oyintando Bangani – received an invitation to the competition early in 2024. Their conductor, Gcina Mqadi, was thrilled about the opportunity.</span>\r\n<h4><b>‘Everything is possible’</b></h4>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite their shock and excitement, the choir members remain grounded and focused on the opportunity.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indiphile Foslara, a partially blind choir member from Dikeni (Alice), said she had never in her wildest dreams thought that she would go to America.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“I grew up listening to gospel music because my parents loved it. When I got to school, we created choirs and our conductor made us trend on social media. Everything is possible. Even if you are a blind child, there is Khanyisa Special School where you will get the best schooling.”</span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2367892\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/p7-Khanyisa-choir2.jpeg\" alt=\"Khanyisa choir\" width=\"1000\" height=\"876\" /> <em>The Khanyisa Special School choir will compete in America’s Got Talent. The school uses Braille and other adaptive technologies to deliver mainstream subjects.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Khanyisa has achieved remarkable success, including a 100% pass rate in 2022 and 2023.
