These include some of the metro’s most densely populated areas.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Municipal officials are counting on the public to restrict water use to 50 litres per person per day to delay the </span><a href=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2022-05-19-the-crisis-water-armageddon-loading-as-day-zero-looms-for-nelson-mandela-bay/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">impending disaster</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so that access to some water from the dams can be retained. </span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two pump stations will increase capacity, but these will be completed only in September, as will several borehole projects.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The metro is in its seventh year of a devastating drought and in January recorded its driest month yet.
