Op-Ed: Bearing final witness to Reeva’s shattered body – should we? 



This week Barry Steenkamp pleaded with Judge Thokozile Masipa to rule that forensic police photographs of his 29-year-old daughter’s shattered skull and bloodied corpse be made public. State Prosecutor Gerrie Nel too said it was time that the world witnessed the violence and damage caused by the four Black Talon bullets Oscar Pistorius pumped into Reeva Steenkamp through his toilet door. But in what appears to be a matter of victim-one-upmanship, should we violate Reeva’s privacy? By MARIANNE THAMM.

Vigils held for slain MP


Vigils are being held across Britain for murdered MP, Jo Cox. An individual named Tommy Mair murdered the pro-Remain Labour MP in her constituency, Birstall, in Yorkshire. Mair allegedly shouted, "Put Britain first" several times during the attack. Read more
















Ex-Auschwitz guard faces judgment


A 94-year-old former SS, Reinhold Hanning faces judgment today in a German court. Hanning is alleged to have been complicit in the ongoing crimes committed at the concentration camp. At his age, it's probable that Hanning will be the final individual put on trial for war crimes during WW II. Read more
















Gun control to be debated


Following a mammoth 15-hour filibustering session of the US Senate, Democrats were able to push through a debate on gun control reform. Scheduled for next week, the debate is guaranteed to cause major tension between Republicans and Democrats. Read more
















Jantjies the 'boss' ahead of Joburg test


Springbok coach, Allister Coetzee, has called on Elton Jantjies, who will run out in the number 10 jersey, to be 'the boss' in the Boks' upcoming match against Ireland in Johannesburg. Making two injury-enforced changes, the Boks must win this weekend's game to restore their chance of winning the three-game series, and their wounded pride. Read more
