The protests in Tshwane last week tell us many things about the ANC, about its processes, and the desperation in the air at the moment, mainly because the economy is slowing. But it also tells us many things about our government, its inability to manage some of these situations, and the problems that arise when certain offices are used for political ends. We must now start to accept that the offices of our security agencies have become de-legitimised. This is going to be a major problem. Post-Brexit pound sinks further


The pound plummeted to a new 30-year low when Asian markets opened once more today. A lack of confidence in Brexited British assets drove investors away in significant numbers. Plunging nearly 2 percent on Monday, it is entirely possible the bloodbath will continue outside of Asian markets. Read more
















US Gay Pride parade draws massive crowds


Hundreds of thousands of supporters attended Gay Pride parades throughout the United States. Showing strong support for the victims of the Orlando shooting, the massive numbers this year were highly vocal in favour of proposed gun control reforms. Read more
















Singapore Airlines flight catches fire, lands


A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER's right engine caught alight near Changi Airport as the plane returned to the airport following an engine oil warning message. Pilots were able to land back on Changi, with the passengers and crew disembarking unharmed. Read more
















Woods possibly out for the year


Tiger Woods has announced he might not be able to compete in the 2016 golf year. Following surgery nine months ago, and constant issues with his back and legs, Woods stressed the importance of recovering fully before re-entering tournaments. Woods has not won a title since 2013. Read more
