Bali on volcano high alert



Bali could see an imminent volcanic eruption, authorities reported this morning. Giant plumes of smoke have been issuing forth from Mount Agung for almost a week. Bali's resident state volcanologist said: "The volcano's alert level has been raised to the highest level." That Bali even has a position called "state volcanologist" ought to tell you the severity of the situation.





 





Russia adds to the Argentine sub hunt



Russia has deployed a sophisticated underwater drone to the search for Argentina's lost submarine. The robot can search the ocean at a depth of up to 1,000 metres, adding much-needed eyes under the water. Argentina, Britain, Russia and the United States have led the effort in searching for the vessel and her 44 crew.





 









Trump sets sight on student debt protections



President Donald Trump's campaign to deconstruct the Obama-era tax structure is now examining student debt. Betsy DeVos, the single worst possible head of the education cabinet, has placed 95,000 student debt forgiveness cases on hold. Many of the cases relate to for-profit colleges accused of gouging students for fees, deliberately withholding graduate rates and employment figures. 





 





Pope arrives in Myanmar



The heat is on for Pope Francis as he arrives in Myanmar today. The papal chief travelled to the country to help to resolve the ethnic cleansing conducted by the country's military against Rohingya Muslims. Perhaps the most significant testament to the pope's character is the fact that the Catholic head is going to advocate on behalf of a Muslim population.
