He was subsequently convicted of corruption and sentenced to 15 months in prison.</p>\r\n<p data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:340\">Jacob Zuma is a controversial figure, but he is also a significant figure in South African history. He was the first president of South Africa to be born after apartheid, and he played a key role in the transition to democracy.
