Nkandla: National Key Points Act could be used to thwart Zuma’s #Paybackthemoney discount

Documents obtained in a 2013 PAIA application by the amaBhungane centre for investigative journalism in a probe seeking to unravel the massive “scope creep” that became the Nkandla scandal reveal that President Jacob Zuma knew about the project all along, that it was he who asked for it to be kept confidential and that the president had been warned he would personally be responsible for security costs. Some of these facts have been obfuscated in the years of legal ducking and diving around Nkandla. Just two documents in the more than 12,000 pages released provide 20/20 clarity in hindsight. Saudi suicide bomb attack kills four

The pre-Eid suicide bombing trend continued throughout Monday with an attacker targeting the Prophet's mosque in Medina. Four security personnel, who perished in the blast, prevented the suicide bomber from entering the mosque. Another suicide bombing in Qatif was reported as well. Read more

Bombing prevented in Nigeria

Three female suicide bombers have been prevented from carrying out a triple suicide bombing in Nigeria. Internally displaced people in Monguno, in Borno state, were the target of the attempted attack. Nigerian security forces were able to shoot two of the three suspects, with the third's explosives detonating prematurely an hour later. Read more

R2K joins SABC picket bandwagon

Not content to be outdone by the recent protests against SABC censorship, organised by journalists and joined by the South African Editor's Forum, the Right2Know campaign and associated hangers-on have announced planned pickets of their own. The demonstrations are scheduled for Wednesday (SABC) and Thursday (Icasa) this week. Read more

Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Serena Williams all breezed through 'Manic Monday' to reach the last eight at Wimbledon. Dominika Cibulková, who achieved a surprise victory as well, is now considering cancelling her wedding, which illustrated just how surprising it was. Read more
