"contents": "<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in Zimbabwe but making his mark in Johannesburg, </span><a href=\"https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008784932229\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snagga T</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a familiar face on the city’s music scene, spinning tunes for the </span><a href=\"https://www.facebook.com/AfricanStormSoundSystemOfficial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">African Storm sound system</span></a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the age of 40, just 21 days after celebrating his birthday, Snagga T met his untimely end.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He reportedly died in the fire alongside his fiancée, who was apparently also a DJ and originally from Zimbabwe, according to friends of the couple.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the couple’s Facebook pages, their deaths occurred two weeks after they became engaged, adding a poignant layer to the loss felt by those who knew them.</span>\r\n\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1947187\" src=\"https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/mashalltown-fire-profile-2-Inset-2.jpg\" alt=\"andy snagga albert street fire\" width=\"720\" height=\"672\" /> <em>Former YFM DJs Andy ‘The Admiral’ Kasrils (left) and Snaggat T. (Photo: Facebook)</em></p>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snagga T, a devoted adherent of the Rastafarian culture, not only shaped the Joburg dancehall scene but also collaborated with the likes of former YFM DJs Andy “The Admiral” Kasrils and Jah Seed, co-founder of the kwaito musical group, Bongo Maffin.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanya Irene Mabhena, the mother of Snagga T’s child, recalled: “Snagga loved music; it was his life. But he also loved our child and did all he could to provide for her, even after our separation.</span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“We were all saddened by the loss of Snagga T. It’s worse because our child always asks about him, and, as per our culture, I can’t directly tell her in broad daylight.
